Boris SPASSKY
Born: January 30, 1937 in Leningrad.
The 10-th World Champion (1969 -1972), the International Grandmaster (1955), the Champion of the USSR (1961, 1973), the Youth World Champion (1955), a journalist.
Spassky
B. Spassky has played chess since the age of 5. He perfected his mastership at the Leningrad Pioneers Palace chess section. In 1953 Spassky made his debut at the International Tournament in Bucharest and took the 4-6-th place (met the requirements for the International Master). At the age of 18 he gained the right to participate in the pretenders' tournament (1956, Amsterdam) and took the 3-d - 7-th place. In 1960 - 1980 B. Spassky successfully played at the World Championship competitions, international tournaments and chess Olympiads.
The World Championship Matches:
 
1966, Moscow. Petrosian - Spassky. The score is 11.5 : 12.5 (+ 3, - 4, = 17). Petrosian kept the World Champion's title.
 
1969, Moscow. Petrosian - Spassky. Spassky won with the score of 12.5 : 10.5 (+ 6, - 4, = 13) and took the highest chess title.
 
1972, Reykjavik (Iceland). Spassky - Fischer. Spassky lost with the score of 8.5 : 12.5 (+ 3, - 7, = 11). Fischer became the 11-th World Champion.
 
Spassky excellently understands both tactical complications and positional struggle cobweb. His main weapon - the play universality.
